Man With Largest Hand In the World Get’s Surgery

Liu Hua, a 24-year-old Jiangsu Province native, was born with a left thumb, index and middle finger much larger than normal. The condition he suffers from is called macrodactyly, a birth defect in which toes or fingers are abnormally large.

The cause of the disease is unknown but bone and soft tissue grows at an extraordinary rate.

Liu’s three fingers and arm grew dramatically as he grew older and this had a serious affect on his life and his ability to work.

When Liu was hospitalized in Shanghai last month, his left thumb measured 26 centimeters, his index finger was 30cm and his middle finger 15cm. The overall weight of his left arm was about 10 kilograms.

“It was the biggest hand in the world,” said Chen Zuliang, a hospital official. “Liu’s fingers stopped growing in recent years so plastic surgery was at last possible to correct the malformation.”

On July 20 surgeons began a seven-hour operation to reduce the size of Liu’s fingers and thumb. Doctors removed 5.1kg of flesh and bone in the procedure.

“This was the first stage. The patient will regain the use of most of his left hand after rehabilitation,” Chen said. “A second operation is scheduled in six months to reshape his left arm and shoulder.”

It is hard to look at this picture… I hope that he can start having a regular life again. I can’t imagine this guy was getting much action with his hand the way it was.

California Home On The Market For $76 Million

If you are in the market for an estate with some history, the Tippett Hall is back on the market.

The mansion boasts 10,000 sq ft., it has nine bedrooms, 7 ½ bathrooms, leaded glass, chandeliers and inlaid floors, but is not fit for occupancy.

Local venture capitalist Bill Stensrud and his wife, Carol, who are selling the estate for three times what they paid seven years ago, were unavailable for comment on the reason the mansion was gutted. With its current state, it would cost millions to re-do the house as well.

The Stensruds bought the house for $25 million from the Scripps Memorial Hospital, which had received it as a bequest from the late Ruth “Sally” Tippett, who served on the board of the hospital. They paid $5 million more than asking price of the home.

I am not sure why this couple thinks that they can triple the value of a home that is not even fit for occupancy…

It does have some strong history and sits on a beautiful bluff, but no one believes that it is worth even close it’s asking price.

Fabulous Aquariums!

We have an amazing freshwater fish tank with 2 stingrays, an eel and 2 ghostknife fish.

Before we had the tank I really couldn’t appreciate the hard work and dedication that went into keeping the fish happy.

When I see an amazing tank it always makes me wonder who cleans it and how long it takes for them to keep everything running well.

Mentalfloss.com has a neat collection of unbelievable tanks.

Here are a few…

Pieter van Suijlekom’s aquarium is a saltwater tank system with a total volume of 2074 gallons. This marvel is Pieter’s 5th design, he is a hobbiest from the Netherlands.

Placed at the lobby of the Radisson SAS Hotel in Berlin, the 25 meters high AquaDom is the largest cylindrical aquarium ever built. Filled with about 900,000 liters of seawater, it contains some 2600 fish of 56 species.

This in the wall tank belongs to Quoc Hoang. It is 220-gallons that sits in the garage, but is viewed through the living room. Quoc had the tank custom built when he had his house built.

You GO Girl!!

Edna Parker, who has outlived her husband, children and siblings, was confirmed as the world’s oldest known person when Yone Mnagawa, a Japanese woman four months her senior, died on Monday.

The 114-year-old Indiana woman became the world’s oldest person this week celebrated the distinction yesterday with a slice of her favorite cake.

Dressed in a pink polka-dot dress and costume pearl jewelry, Parker was wheeled before television cameras and reporters Thursday in a dining room at the central Indiana nursing home where she lives. Clutching two old photographs — including one from the early 1900s of her and her sisters wearing floppy hats — she shook her head when reminded of her feat of longevity.

“It’s hard to believe,” she said.

Parker was born April 20, 1893, the year Lizzie Borden was acquitted in the ax murders of her father and stepmother. She taught for a few years in a two-room schoolhouse, but as was the custom of that era, her teaching career ended with her marriage to Earl Parker. She became a farmer’s wife, preparing meals for as many as a dozen men who worked on her husband’s farm.

She said she never drank alcohol or tried tobacco, and led an active life. But instead of tips on living a long life, her only advice to those gathered was: “More education.”

Parker has 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. The youngest, 7-month-old Kole Scott, sat on her lap Thursday as she and her visitors ate white cake, her favorite, decorated with sugar flowers and icing declaring her “the oldest person in the world.”

“We think it’s amazing, a little lady from the country who really doesn’t care much about being acknowledged or anything like that,” said grandson Don Parker, 58.

Her ranking as the world’s oldest living person was confirmed by the Gerontology Research Group, an Inglewood, Calif.-based organization that tracks and verifies the ages of supercentenarians — people 110 or older.

As of Thursday, its Web site listed 76 living supercentenarians.

Can you even imagine all of the things that this woman has seen? When she was born the radio had just been invented.

Even Jennifer Lopez Has Cellulite

Every celebrity is always portrayed as perfect and unflawed, which is why I was happy to see that Miss Badunkadunk Jennifer Lopez has cellulite.

Not a tremendous amount…just enough for her to be a nice normal girl just like the rest of us – LOVE it!

Here is the BEST part – she doesn’t care. Her husband loves her just the way she is.

She told Elle: “He [Marc Anthony] likes my body. And for most of my adult life, my body hasn’t gone up or down, it’s remained the same, give or take four pounds.

“I eat meat, I eat carbs, I even eat McDonald’s. What I don’t do is ever overeat. I don’t eat desserts and I can limit the chocolate chip cookies to one or two.”

And if there were any doubt that a little cellulite would trigger feelings of insecurity or self-doubt about her famous Latina looks, she added:

“For me, looking good is all about looking healthy, and the ultimate beauty secret is about being happy in yourself.”

Another Great Anti Smoking AD

I am a non smoker and can’t understand why anyone would pick up this useless habit.

There have been some pretty cool ad campaigns launched to try to get people to understand the health repercussions from smoking.

This one is from Brazil via ADS OF THE WORLD.

6 Acre Snakes And Ladders Game

Do you remember playing snakes and ladders were your were a kid? I do and I liked it but not enough to create a 6 acre version of the game.

Michael Blee, 62, who spent months creating the six-acre maze at Gore Farm in Upchurch, near Rochester, Kent, said: “This is the 10th one I’ve done and its the most complicated so far.

“We are applying to the Guinness Book of Records as it must be the world’s biggest game of snakes and ladders.

“Families really enjoy themselves. One visitor took four hours to complete the game and get out.”

Holidaymaker Robert Hope, 36, who completed the game with his two children Maisie, five, and Stewart, eight, said: “It was amazing. You really feel like you are playing a game of snakes and ladders even though it is on such a large scale. It’s a fantastic maze.”

The maze will be open throughout the summer holidays.

What Has This World Come To?

There is a website out there will ‘ruin’ the life of an enemy for $20.

For as little as $20 a month, visitors can make the credit ratings of people they dislike plummet, and even have them suspected of fraud.

Victims’ bank accounts can be shut down remotely and all their essential utilities cut off.

Fake e-mails and text messages which purport to come from someone else, such as the victim’s spouse, can be sent containing false accusations of affairs or sexual liaisons.

“We can make it so someone couldn’t even get an ice cream cone on credit again,” the site promises.

One way of doing this, it explains, is to apply repeatedly for credit using the victim’s name and multiple addresses, leading inevitably to a red flag from Britain’s Credit Industry Fraud Avoidance System (Cifas) or similar agencies.

Credit is then stopped until an investigation by Cifas decides whether the subject has been the perpetrator or victim of fraud.

CA offers further ideas of how to use its services.

“Create some false payslips [paychecks] and send them back returned to the victim’s employer and watch them lose their job,” it advises.

“Destroy a person’s bank account using our novelty bank statements. Bank accounts are like gold dust now; return[ing] a novelty bank statement with their details back to the bank works for killing someones [sic] credit card account.

“Watch your victim cry when all his/her accounts are closed.”

The Web site states that even accounts on eBay, the auction Web site, and PayPal, the Internet payment system, can easily be sabotaged.

I am not publishing the name of this despicable site. You finances are not anyones business. No one should be able to destroy the hard work that has been done over the years to establish credit because they are mad at you.
